As much as everyone comes to a lake house for the water, there is something to be said for the moments that happen indoors. The rainy afternoon that turns into a four-hour board game tournament. The late night movie that keeps everyone on the couch long past bedtime. The dart game that somehow becomes the most competitive thing that happened all week. At Fort Sunsets, those moments have a home — and it is a good one.

Welcome to the Rec Room. The kids will claim it immediately. The adults will follow shortly after.

Twin day beds and convertible lounge chairs in the rec room

A Hangout Built for the Whole Family

The rec room is designed from the ground up to be the kind of space where everyone ends up eventually. Two twin day beds pull double duty as deep, comfortable couch seating during the day and sleeping space when the night runs long or the sleeping arrangements need a little flexibility. Two additional lounge chairs convert to twin cots, which means this room can quietly transform into an overflow bedroom for up to four — perfect for a house full of cousins, a group of friends, or kids who decide they want to have a sleepover in the fun room instead of their actual bedroom. Nobody will blame them.

The layout is casual and comfortable by design — the kind of room where shoes come off at the door, everyone finds their spot, and the afternoon just disappears.

Game On

The game collection is stocked and ready for whatever your family brings to the table — and we mean that literally. Whether your crew is into classic board games, card games, or something that involves a lot of dice and even more negotiation, there is something here for every age and every attention span. Rainy day? Perfect excuse for a tournament. Quiet evening after dinner? Deal the cards. Kids too wound up for bed? A good game has a way of wearing everyone out in the best possible way. We do count on our amazing guests to restore the games to their proper sets for the next contest.

The soft tip dart board adds a little friendly competition to the mix and tends to attract a crowd quickly. Challenge the kids, settle a score with your travel companion, or just practice your aim while someone else picks the next movie. It is one of those simple additions that ends up generating an outsized amount of fun over the course of a week.

The huge TV in the lower-level rec room, ready for movie night

Movie Nights Done Right

The huge TV anchors the room and makes movie night feel like an event. Flip through the DVD collection and let the kids take turns picking — a ritual that is somehow both chaotic and deeply satisfying — or stream your family favorites and settle in for a double feature. The day beds and lounge chairs mean everyone has a comfortable spot, blankets are easy to pile on, and the only potential downside might be the very best nap of your life.

Rainy afternoons were practically invented for this room. Fire up the TV, make a big bowl of popcorn, and let the weather do its worst. By the time the sun comes back out, you will have watched two movies, finished a bag of candy, and made memories that have absolutely nothing to do with the lake — and that is perfectly okay.
